ELECTIVE EXECUTIVE.

Ona of the most interesting discussions that will take pkce at the Dominion Conference of the Farmers' Union, to be held in Wellington this month, will be on the subject of an Elective Executive. The Auckland province is submitting the following remit:— "That this Conference considers that tho time has come when the present 'party system' should be superseded by some form of gov-, 'Comment by Elective Executive, as being a form of government oalcu-; lated to more truly carry into effect the views of the electors, and tending to eliminate from the politics of this Dominion the many evils which have grown up around the •party system,' and that « committee be appointed by the Dominion Conference to consider and draft a schemo of government by Elective Executive for this country, in order that the Farmers' Union .may be able to enter on *n active campaign to bring this principle clearly before the electors of the Dominion." The Farmers' Union will deserve well of tho community, if it can devise a system that will do away with party evils. But the reception accorded the measures that have l>een introduced to the House of Representatives from time to time, having this object in view, do not encourage the belief that a solution of the problem is within the immediate range of practical politics.
