LONDON'S LATEST CRAZE.
Patchwork parties are society s latest amusement. This doesn't mean that everyone sits down to_li6lp to make a patchwork quilt! No; the patchwork is quite of another order and consists in making a picture in bas-relief with that fascinating medium, plasticine. Most artistic results may\ be obtained, little Kate Greenaway figures being particularly effective and well worth preserving. / A delightful plastic patchwork tournament took place recently at the Hotel Cecil, under the auspices of the Patchwork Club, of which Mr David H E. King is the founder and Don. secretary. The two hundred guests were seated at little, tables m groups of four. The first task consisted in' cutting out nortion of a coloured picture and sticking them correctly on to a skeleton outline on cardboard. Half an hour was allowed for this. Then came an interval, during which the method of applying the plasticine the picture was demonstrated.Tho to witr the materials provided—portions ot five colours of pla-sticine and a modellintr tool like a smooth -.vond'yi sk'nver" Stwi!! niw "f plastioi.ni* '"illi"! <v,'t n:"/' laid in position on tho coloured picture. and were flattened out with th? thumb and tir>-a«-s. Then the edges were trimrn ocj off with the tcol. leavintr a black out-: lino all round. Pome of the eomp"ntors keot their pictures flat while other# attempted modeling In the far"s and hands wer» left uncovered. The remit wrr* highly: varied, moot■ amusing, and mten ver\ ' arti«tic. A cartoon of M.i. LloydGeorge and a suffragette was most realistic, and decidedly popular. Handsome orizes were awarded for the twelve "best pictures. . After supper manv guests indulged in while others took part in a whist drive. nn'Mhus the evening was broueht to a close. . patchwork has sprung into immediate' popularity, and is already W n}l established in many hotels and boafdincr-honses in. Bournemouth and other South Coast resorts, and Mr Kill!?'' and his f omm-.ttee - are b:siegecl with re<j'!estf) for help ot''.ganisation of tournaments. . Host-esses who are on the look-out for something novel will welcome this new r.-crent:or. , I Another wav of using; plasticine 1 for an evening's amusement is. to provide each with a few portions of ,it, to offer a prize for the best *,?<* or other r-ni'mal modelled m halt an hour. This causrs endless fun; and the materials can be used again and again.
