Dr Kalenburg, late of Guy's Hosuital, London., and recentlv of . Gisborne, has, says a Press Association telegram, been appointed medical superintendent of tlje Gwhorne Hospital at a salary of £SOO. Mr Hindmarsth, an inspector of the Bank of New Zealand, is to take tha place of Mr R. W. Gibbs as manager of the bank at Timaru.
Mr W. G. Fisher, late of Otaki, died in South Australia recently from pneumonia. Deceased, who leaves a wife and two children in Otaki, was a brother of Hon. F. M. B. Fisher. Ho was a great athlete in earlier years, S»eing one of the best footballers "Wellington has produced. A London cable announces the death of Her. Miss E. Williams, who, during the last two years, has acted as secretary of the Wairarapa branch of ther Teachers' Institute, resigned office on Saturday last, and severed her connection with the branch Institute.
Mt J. S. Tennaut, principal erf the ; "Wellington Training College was a visitor to Masterton on Saturday last. Mr John Payne, M.P., was a visitor to Masterton on Saturday. Mr R. J. Dagg, of Masterton, will act as judge pf draught horses at the South Canterbury show. Mr T. V. Moore has been appoint■©d to succeed the late Mr G. W. Deller as treasurer of the Wairarapa "• and A. Society. Owing to ill-health, Mr W. Moor© has resigned from the, committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society. The resignation has been accepted with sincere regret. Mr W. C. Dollar has been appointed to the committee. Mr 6. W. Sellar, F.1.A., of Mas-terton,-has been re-elected auditor of the Wellington Farmers' Bacon Co., Ltd. 1 / Mr J. D.. Woodward, secretary of the Wellington. Chess Club, and formerly of Christchurch, who was wellknown among chess plavera of New Zealand, died in the Wellington Hospital on Saturday evening, as tho reImt of an attack of pneumonia. Alpass, formerly of Alfredtbn, were interred in the Masterton Cemetery on Saturday afternoon last. There was a large following of old identities of the district. Mr H. Keene has disposed of hie property at Putara to Mr W. J. ' Manser* late /of Rangiwahia. Mr Keene has acquired £? property in the Dargayille district. Miss Caverhill, who is severing her connection with the Eketahuna school, was on Friday the recipient of a presentation) from the children of the school. , Mr A. W. Hogg will represent the Masterton Labour Party at the Unity Congress to be held in Wellington Jtliis week. " A wedding of local interest was solemnised at St. Margaret's Church, Taihape, on June 21st, when Miss Violet Groves, of "Bush Grove," Masterton, was married to Mr James J. Weir, of the Railway Department.- The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Eva Groves, and two little nieces, Nora Fannin and Marie Groves. Mr D. Weir, of Wellington, , acted as best man. After the ceremony Mr and Mrs Fannin entertain- j ed a large number of guests, and later Mr and Mi's Weir left for the south. The death occurred at Hastings on Saturday .morning of Miss E. McKay, daughter of Mr and Mrs George McKay, of Wangaehu, Masterton, at the age ,of thirty-three years. The deceased was a nurse by profession, and had been for eix years nursing at the Napier Hospital. She had also gained experience in Victoria. Her relatives will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their affliction. The funeral takes place at Masterton this afternoon. _________ The following resolution was passed at a meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society on Friday last: "That the Society expresses its profoundest regret and sorrow at the death of the late Mr G. W. Deller, and places on record its warm appreciation of the very long and untiring services he rendered to the Society as its treasurer, and also as a member of the committee. We deplore his loss, and we endorse the action of the president in writing a letter of sympathy on our behalf to Mrs Deller and family."
