GENERAL NEWS.

A CAT'S CLIMB. To save a cat which, in a fright, had clinbed to the top of a 100 ft ladder, a foreman painter named Percy Robinson risked his life recently (according to the Daily Mail). The cat clung wailing to the topmost rung of the ladder from seven o'clock in the morning till nearly midday. A crowd endeavoured in vain to coax it .to make the descent. Then Robinson climbed the ladder. It overtopped the building against which it was standing by thirty feet, and when Robinson reached this point..the ladder swayed ominously. He was able to clutch the animal and bring it safely down, amid the applause of the onlookers.

GERMAN MILLIONAIRES. The latest statistics of the Prussian State Income Tax Department showthat the German millionaires (possessing a million marks, or £50,000) are fleeing from Central Berlin to the suburbs, and that the suburban Charlottenburg in the course of the last three years has added no fewer than 236 millionaires to the number of its inhabitants. In this space of time Frankfort added 132 and Dusseldorf 104. Of persons worth £25,000 and more Charlottenburg can claim far more than any other German town or city, except Berlin. The numbers are :—Berlin 2689, Charlottenburg 1583, Frankfort 1430, Cologne 814. Wiesbaden 673, Dusseldorf 601, Breslati 531, Hanover 422, Aix-la-Chapelle 276.
