THE DEFENCE ACT-
no AMENDMENT THIS SESSION

It has recently been reported that the Government intended to introduce an amendment to the Defence Act thig session, "To place the military scheme on a more generous scale." The subject was mentioned to-day to the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence, who Teplied that no amendment to the Defence Act wa« contemplated this session. He would,.not ®ay there would not be further amendments to the Act, as time went on, and experience showed them to be necessary. He had i,o bear in mind the-whole organisation of the scheme, which was still largely in experimental stages, and no doubt need might arise for further legislation as time went on; but, so far;as he knew theae would be none this session. , ■
