AMBULANCE SATURDAY.
To-day is Ambulance Day, and an explanation, may be of interest to those who are not acquainted with its objects. The St. John Ambulance Association is part of a world-wide and ancient order, the order of St. John of Jerusalem, founded in the eleventh century, at the time of the crusades, to provide hospitals for the pilgrims to Jerusalem. To-day the scope of the order is much widened, and it contains various branches of activity and influence. In Masterton there are two branches in operation. There is the St. John Ambulance Association proper, for the dissemination of knowledge in "Home Nursing" and "First Aid" to the injured,,and for the. transport of sick and injured; There is. the St. John Ambulance Brigade, for the organising and training ng those, who possess a knowledge of first aJd'And iiome 'training, so that they jnaf 'render' "seawicerto' fatmianity in peace-and war. These branches cannot be carried on without funds, .and .tfoes©,, are,, ..upon ; tar'y'financial facilities -for general knowledge in first aid and nursing, in attending to the proper conveyance of sick and accident cases, in fostering brigades for ambulance and nursing work, the Association can fairly claim generous support from the. public, for whose benefit it exists. To-day there will be.an opportunity for all who approve of such high objects to show their appreciation.
