SMALL GRAZING RUNS.
(To ihe Editor.) Sir, —Be the small grazing runs in the lhuraua -Valley, Mungarai, etc., I read with interest Mr Adams' letter. To say they are suitable for close settlement under the present conditions of the roads etc., is utterly absurd. The way in which they have been cut up naturally makes one want tq know who was responsible for the absurdity, and why one man is allowed to retain 64£ acres (and all. his buildings), fronting two miles of already formed road, aiid' the other man is only allowed to retain 298 acres, and none of his buildings with the highest and most exposed country, and a small frontage to an unformed road. And this is not hv any means tho whole of the story. Two more holders in the same locality, with land held on the same terms- and 'epnditaoiis, I am credibly informed are .being allowed to retain 1 the whole of theii' holdings. In regard to your footnote re legislation passed last session to cut up , these, runs, I have carefully looked up the Statute®, and fail to find.any record where one was to retain more than another. I quite agree with your correspondent that there is room for inquiry, and I hope our member will take, the matter iro as well, as our local Chamber of Commerce. If this is one of the fair deals of the Land Board, it certainly needs, explanation. —I am, etc., OLD SETTLER . Mangamahoe, June 12, 1913.
