AKITIO COUNTY COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Akitio County Council was held on Saturday List, when there, were present: O. 11. B. Robertson (in the- chair), Os Burling, Forrick, EilinglL'm, Murray and Smith. Leave of ab.vonee was grafted to Cr Dickens, who is not expected to return from a trip to Au.stnilia and th-j Islands until ."i;ily 15th, 1913. The following correspondence was received: — From tho District Engineer, informing tht> Council that ;t small porti--'i of timber for Akitio River -wnilii bridge had boon passed in Wellingtori. —Received. From Messrs R. McJvonrdo and Co., stating that they were purchasing hardwood timber from a Wellington firm, and it was expected that same would arrive in Wellington early in August.—Received.
From the Acting-Under-Secretary
Public Works Department, Wellington, referring to the Council's representations regarding the handing over of portion ,of tho V/aiowaka road for control and maintenance, and to the necessity, of erecting 2 bridges in tho vicinity of sections 2 and 3, block 10, Aohanga S.D. Ho advised that the
Road Engineer had reported that although tho .Engineer considers that the two bridges in question will eventually bo-necessary, he does not consider their provision a -natter of urgency. "/Therefore tho Council's application in regard to this matter will bo : considered when the Public Works .-estimates are being compiled.
The Council expressed satisfaction at tho Road Engineer's report; and Gtated that they looked forward to the time when this back-block road, giving so .many .settlors an outlet, would be completed.
Front..,.th.e Chief Surveyor, stating that the, .proposed road deviation to Akitio River Bridge, block V., VI.
and VII., Wnimata S.S.D., at Akitio .(leading from near the Beach Road to the proposed Akitio River month bridge, and passing through Messrs Humphries' and Smith's property) had been duly approved for proclamation purposes, in terms of section 11 of the Land Act, 1908. Further correspondence on this subject showed tint the amount of £2 for examination fee had been paid, and that tho Acting-Under-Secretary Department of Public Roads, Wellington, on the 23rd May, 1913. has advised the Council that ■the. 1 and in question had been proclaimed, and therefore .the Akitio bridge approach road was a public road.

solidated Fund bearing the whole cost of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards expenditure; (b) stating that he was in favour of supporting any reasonable solution of the difficulty re Native rates; (c) thanking the Council for list of proposed grants for the Masterton electorate within the Akitio County; (d) stating that Mr Escottj M.P., and the writer would be pleased to submit a Bill re Accident insurance scherr: during the coding session. On the motion of Or J. W. Murray, seconded by Cr.W. A. Burling, it was 'unanimously resolved to thank Mr Sykea for his trouble regarding the above-described matters, and "point out that the Executive of the Counties' Association were making full inquiries regarding the Accident Insurance Scheme. Prom J. H. Escott, M.P., acknowledging list of proposed grants. From Mr, James Wright, .stating he was prepared to accept £l4 for royalty on metal (Pongaroa to Masterton boundary metalling). This matter being dealt with in the County Overseer's report, it was resolved that Mr J. Wright be .offered the amount he agreed to accept in the first instance) viz., 2d per cubic yard. Much obiection was taken to the. notification'of the Aseistant-Secrfe-tarv of the General Post.Office, Wellington, that there is a deficiency on the vear's working of the Mangatiti and Puketoi telehon& offices of £l9 3s 8d and half of his amount -ms due by the Akitio Council as subsidy, viz., £9 lis lOd. The Council were of opinion that the Mangatiti and Puketoi telephone offices should be credited Avtith some just proportion of messages remitted from the Horcoka, Akitio and Weber districts. The clerk was instructed to write the Department on the subject. 1 Mr John Overend's slaughterhouse license numbpr (W. 29) was considered, and it was resolved that the Council give permission that a renewal of license may be issued at the pleasure of the Stock Department. Th' 3 clerk informed the County that dm terms of an agreement dated the 29th day of January, 1901, Mr ; Nerval Speedy has the following rights regarding his application that a ■rab-'bit-proof gate should be erected by the Council at Waiotiaki Bridge, '"the vendor (now Mr Spe?dy v i lias-.a right to erect and maintain a rabbit-proof swing gate across the said road on the north-east igide of the bridge proposed to be erected over.the Aohanga River at such point as the vendor shall determine for a period of twenty years or until *the. said road has been fenced on both sides whichever shall first happen." . Tlie clerk notified th? Council that portion (32 chains) of, the Waioakura road and the whole,of tlie Mariananga road had been handed oyer to the Council to "control and maintain.

Ellingham stared to the Council ho wished to hold over (pending a reply from the district ■•engineer) his notice of motion: "That the Council make special provision for tho supervision of tho various bridges." The ranger reported that hj? is summoning several persons who -have committed a breach of the winter bylaws. A copy of tho Akitio Council's by-laws will bo posted to any person interested, upon application.
