A CONSTITUTION WANTED.

The extraordinary diversity of opinion that exists between the leaders of the so-called Labour Party in New Zealand as to what the "constitution" of that party shall be, leads the Christchurch Press to quote the case of Abbe Sieyes.

Abbe Sieyes (said Burke)) has whole nests of pigeonholes full of constitutions, ready-made, ticketed, sorted, and numbered ; suited to every season and every fancy; some with the top of the pattern at the bottom and some with the botom at the top; some plain, some flowered; some distiriguishec] for their simplicity, others for their complexity; some of blood colour, some of boue de Paris.; so-ne with directories, others, without a direction; some _ with councils of elders, and councils of youngsters; gome without aay council at all. Some, where the elector* chose the representatives; others where the representatives chose the electors. Some in long coats, and ' some in . short. oloaks; some with pantaloons ; some without breeches. Soiie with fiveshilling qualifications; some totally unqualified. So that no constitu-tion-fancier may go unsuited from his atop.
