MEETING OF DIPLOMATS. EXCHANGE OF PLEASANTRIES. (Received Last'Xisrht, 1.5 o : clock.) WASHINGTON, Junj 7. Mr W. J. Bryan, Secretary of State, speaking at a pre-arranged meeting at Pittsburg betwetn Mr Guthrie (Foreign Secretary} ami Count Chinda (Jin pan), paid a tribute to both diplomats. He. asked that the wh01. % question between the two countries should be dealt with in an amicable- spirit. Count Chinda agreed that misunderstandings were always easily settled if a spirit of justice .and fairplay only was observed. The two nations, he said, ought always to remain good and trusted neighbours. AN IMPORTANT POINT. (Received June 7, 1 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 6. The Japanese rejoinder to the United States alleges violation of the Japanese-American Tr:aty. While appreciating the American contention that the question is largely an economic one, Ja.pan points out that it enters the sphere of international relations, and therefore is also political. Japan contends that the in the American Constitution requiring all States to afford equal protection under the law to all person's within their jurisdiction has also been violated.
