SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
UP THE MUNGATARERE VALLEY. The Carterton New s of Saturday savs:—"A distressingly painful accident befel Mr Frank Daysh, an employee of T. J. Rathbone, timber merchant, yesterday. He was engaged with others hauling logs from tlie bush up theMaungatarere Valley, when suddenly" the log lurched forward and rolled, crushing Mr Daysh against an old tree stump. His right leg wa s almost pulped, and severe compound fractures were sustained in two places. Mr Alf John-son,-County Overseer, happened to be present, and he skilfully bandaged and put the leg in splints. The sufferer was then brought into Carterton, and at once sent to>the Masterton Hospial for treatment. He is aged about 23 or 24."
On inquiry at the Hospital last night, we learned that the young man was progressing as favourably as could be expected, arid that amputation had not been considered necessary.
