"THE DANDIES"
AT THE TOWN HALL. Mr Edward Bt .in scorn he's Xew English Comedy Company, "Tlio Dandies" made their first appearance in Masterton last niglib, when they were greeted with a bumper house. The company i s one of the brightest and nost versatile tli.:t has appeared in this town. It is composed entirely of artists, each of whom has a reputation above the average. The concerted item s given by the company were particularly brilliant. Possibly, the most successful wis die quartette "Soldier's Farewell," by Messrs Agneur, Hardman, Peachey, and Waltham. The MisseF' Lily and Rita Fitzgerald were in good voice, and their solos were well received. M; George Edwards created much amusement with hi s humorous songs, and was heard to advantage in the duet, "You've got me hypnotised," with Miss Rita Fitzgerald. Mr Athol Tier gave two comic items, for which he was recalled, ;\nd Messrs Agnew and Waltham each created a good impressiou with their voonl items. The "star" of the- evening was Mr Joseph Brennaji. He is a born comedian, and his facial contortions are in themselves a revelation in stage-craft. His sketch, "() Memory," and his representation of a young woman preparing for a day's visiting were exceedingly funny ajid true to nature. As a monologue artist, it would be hard to find his equal. The topical songs were produced' with a remarkable fidelity to nature, the Japanese and Spanish representations being especially good. Taken altogether, the entertainment was ;i particularly good one, some of the items being brilliant. The company will appear again to-nigbt % when •an entire change of programme will be produced.
