EXPLOSION AT KUMEROA.
THREE MEN INJURED. The Woodville Examiner 'reports that a serious accident occurred at Kvmeroa a few days ago. Messrs Jack Smyth and Claud Mackie were starting the crutching of Mr Smyth's , sheep in his died.. They had diffi- ' culty ' in getting the kerosene oil engine that drives the sheep-shearing machinery to go —as a matter of £ac*it woilfi not budge. So they sent Mr'lt. Pattisoni, who is an expert with these engines. Mr Pattison - filled the engine with oil from a newly-opened vtin. When a matwh was applied to the going part immediately there was a terrific explosion, t " wad the three men received' the full fprce -of it, and were badly burned. '' ; Mr-'Macki&'was the least jtojured of the feree,' and luckily had sufficient energy left te get sacks to cover the , flametej otherwise the woofehed would nave xxiught fire and 400 sheep that were in the shed would have been roasted alive. Mr Pattison was badly burned, and singed about the arms wad face, and had to he conveyed home and Dr Mules sent for. Messrs Smyth and Mackie were also badly ' scorched. .......
