AMUSEMENTS.
TOWN HALL PICTURES. The change of programme at the Masterton Town Hall last night drew a large and appreciative audience. The star film, "On Donovan's Division," was a very fine Edison drama, exquisitely mounted and charmingly produced. It was a thrilling story, in which the heroism of a girl in saving two trains from disaster was a fitting climax. "The Toy maker" and "The Wrecker" were also dramas which appeal xl to the emotions. "The Adventures of Dick and Harry" proved a most diversifying comedy, being full to the 1 brim with remarkable and almost distracting situations. "The Lady Sheriff," and "Tweedledum as Tenor" were also delightful comedies. The scenery disclosed in the picture of "Otta Valley'* was really superb, and the l audience slhowed its appreciation with round© of applause. Tonight will be the last opportunity afforded the public of Masterton of witnessing this unique and varied programme, and the opportunity should not be missed.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
"IN THE HOUR OF NEED."
Last evening's change at the T.P. : Electric Theatre drew a largo and enthusiastic audience. Among the films screened was a 9000 foot . Nordisk feature play, entitled "In the Hour of Need." This film is a society drama of considerable merit, and is produced in the Nordiak . Company's highly finished style. The plot is brilliant' and interesting .and combined with- supefrb: ;&etipg. mak-s® the picture' ft Smithi" a Lubip ; production;. is <■&. military, episode- 1 in which there- a. love vein, and many exciting incidents which make it a popular item. Two Western items were shown in the Essanay Company's "Indian Maid's First Lesson and in "A Fighting Chance," by the Nestor Company. Both these films abound with the popular Western exciting situations and are ©specially popular with the young folk. A very humorous item was given, in "The Engagement of Miss Elerie,"- which specially appeal ' tio the -fairer sex, latest topics of the day were-dis-coursed in animation by the '/Eclair Journal," which showed the. latest fashions and French training. Very amusing comics were"' shown in ."One Way to Win" and "Business" as Usual." This programme will be repeated this evening, whan it should draw another good audience. THE DANDIES. Mr Edward Bramscombe's company of entertainers, "The Dandies," who are to inaugurate a two nights season at the 'lown Hall on Friday, June titli, need no special introduction to the Masrterton public. Mr Branscombe has five companies permanently located in the different cities of the Commonwealth, and two of these axe to be in New Zealand for the winter. ."The Dandies" present" an entertainment which covers an exceptionally wide range, and includes high-class solos and partsinging, musical melodrama, burlesque, highly-diverting character caricatures, dainty concerted numbers, and a budget of humorous novelties. The company selected to appear here is said to be no exception to the rule, and quite up to the. standard of previous entertainers. The box plan; is now open at the Dresden, ia no extra charge for booking. THE ALLAN DOONE SEASON. The renown ?d Irish-American singing comidian and emotional actor, Mr Allen Doone, who-is at present playing to crowded houses at .the Opera House after a most successful season of three weeks in Wellington, will make.his first appearance in Masterton on Monday next, 9th June, in an enchanting musical com-ndy-drama,' "A Romance in Ireland. Mr Doone and his company, of Irish players possess all the essentials for, great successes; not only are they actors of ,a high artistic order but they have the true Irish spirit and are 'singers of distinction. Mr Allen Doone earned the reputation of being the finest singing Irish actor of America and Great Britain. _ The season of three weeks at the Opera House constitutes a record for any company in that city. Associated with Mr Doone is Miss Edna Keeley, the brilliant young, Irish-American comedienne and emotional actress, whOse artistry and grace have won for her a very high position in the theatrical world of the United States.' The play chosen for Masterton is "A rftomance of Ireland, which is full of dramatic surprises, entrancing melodies, stirring . situations and rollicking Irish fun. The box plan will open at the Dresden on Friday morning. ,
