RECORD LAND SALE.
THE RIDDIFORD ESTATE,

A land sal© that created more than usual interest was held in the Empire Hall, Palmerstom North, to-day, wheal the celebrated Longburn estate of the late Mr E. J. Riddiford was offered for sale by auction by Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd. The hall was packed, nearly a thousand persons being present. The estate comprised 1651 acres, and was subdivided into forty-four farms, ranging in area from 13 to 121 acres, and also .23 quarter-<acre sections adjoining the Longburn railway station. Every section offered attracted the keenest possible competition, resulting in all being sold under the hammer. The farming areas realised prices ranging from £47 to £7O per acre, the average price being about £55 per acre. The sale can be described as one of the most successful ever held in the Dominion, and at its conclusion the auctioneers were warmly congratulated by the vendors.
