A RUNAWAY TRAIN.
(Bv Telegraph. — Press Association.) GIIEYMOUTH, May 28. This morning as the Publicj Works* train was coming down, an incline from the No. 2 State mine with fourteen trucks containing - 120 tons of coal the larg-» 6o W.E. type of engine, recently placed on the line, failed to hold to the train in spite of all brakes jammed on. Engine-driver Gray and Fireman Ford stuck to the train until the enorine reach 'd a. line with a dead end. They then jumped clear and escaped without injury. The engine struck the bank and turned over, two trucks being damaged. The engine was formerly on the .Riluutaka and requires a centre rail which is not' yet in position.
