"THE MONK AND THE WOMAN."
Great interest is being manifested in Masterton at the forthcoming production of the sensational play,- "The Monk and the Woman," which will be staged for the iirst time at the Town Hall on Monday evening next by George Harlow's Dramatic Company. In describing tlio earthquake scene, which concludes the piece, the Sydney Morning Herald says: "At the end, 'where the hero and heroine were in danger of extenmiiation, and hud in fact retreated up a staircase, before the swords of the enemy, the Chateau o-f St. Claire was •suddenly destroyed by an earthquake. The whole of the pa'litial interior, with its hangings, fell into pieces, and the open country was revealed, with a volcano spouting flames and red-hot cinders, and the happy pur on their little eminence alone saved amongst all who crowded the animated scene." Nothing wiill be spared to make the production here :i memorable one. Magnificent c«istume s and a huge quantity of scenic, and mechanical effects will make it one of the most spectacular plays ever .staged here. The box plan is now on view at the Dresden, and day sales are at McLeod and Young's.
