CONNECTING THE COASTS.

The movement that is being revived in favour of constructing a stock track across the Tararua ranges to connect the Hukanui and Eketahuna districts with the West Coast, is one that should be supported by stockowners and others in the northern portion of the Wairarapa. Some years ago the importance of this track was urged in the House of Representatives by the late Mr Job Vile and others, and a flying survey was made. It has been ascertained that a convenient track could be secured leading up from a valley in the neighbourhood of Hukanui, and that there are 110 serious obstacles in the way. The connecting of the two coasts would confer an inestimable boon upon stock-ownerg. It would put thousands of pounds into the pockets of settlers. For this reason we trust that the Government will be favourably impressed with the project, and will render it every assistance
