"A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE," ETC.
The old saw that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" should be taken to heart by Mr H. C. Robinson and his partv of three—one of whom is "doubtful." When the party seeks to show that attendance at a High School in Ma-steiton would be higher than it is at the District High .School, because it happens to have become so in two or three northern townships?, where the conditions are quite dissimilar, it makes itself supremely ridiculous. For the benefit of Mr Robinson, who displays stupendous ignorant; 1 of the whole subject, we would point out that free place pupils are those who have secured either proficiency certificates or scholarships. Und-sr the regulations governing free places, these pupils ' are compelled to attend the-nearest secondary school to the place m which they obtained this scholarship or proficiency certificate. It is, therefore, impossible to draw free plare pupils outside a radius of af J w nules of Masteiloii. seeing that Carterton and Eketahuna have each a secondary school. The only possible means by which the attendance at a HigJi School proper could be made larger than the attendance at the District Hitch School, would be by P a >' pupils or by a greater number of local profici micv pupils taking advantage of the secondary education. To speculate upon such a possibility to indulge in recklessness, pure and simple.
