THE SHEARERS' TROUBLE.
OONFEKIENGE TO BE HELD IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Further negotiations have taken place between the Shearer's Association and the Sheepowners', Federation, and as a result a. conference between the parties will be held in Wellington on June 4th, concerning the demands recently formulated by the shearers. The owners were asked some weeks ago to meet the. men's representatives on the questions of wages and the principal one, relating to blade shearers, for whom 22a Cd per hundred is.asked."' The owners* replied that they could not. attend a conference on the date suggested— May 7th. , The shearers'* executive then decided to drop the negotiations and ,advase the men not'to enter into engagements to shear during the coming season, as it was felt that if a conference could not be held now .arid some agreement reached on the demands, there would he no time to obtain a new award; through the court before shearing begins,again, >nd the men would thus have to continue another year under the old' Since the .announcement of the men's executive's decision,./-'the. mistier has been re-opened,\ with .the result as stated 'above. The names of the owners' representatives are not known yet, but the shearers' delegates at the conference wall he Messrs Cooper (President). King (Tinwru), Johnson (Ashburton), Tmrnsend" (Blenheim), Mcßae (Masterton), Boon (Ghristchurch), and M. Laracv (secretary).
