LOSS OF STOCK FEARED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, Last Night. There has been a. vtfl-y heavy fall of snow in the back country, and though no'losses of stock ha\e yet been reported, the position, looks very serious for many of the settlers, many of whom only took up their runs' last vear. between Mesopotamia amd Mt." Alijadus the snow lies to a depth of throe fvet, and at Devils Hill, Lake Heron and Hakatarere the settlers are much concerned for the safety of their stock. 0): some runs the sheep had been brought down from the liills before the heavj snow storm, but ;n some cases the sheep are still upon the high country, where they have be- i n exposed to most severe conditions.
