A Gisborne telegram states that Mr John Townley has b;en re-elected, unopposed, as Chairman of the Gisborne Harbour Hoard, a position which he has filled for 23 years in succession, being first elected to , position am December 11th, 1890, I four years after the Board was constituted. The deceased leaves thirteen children, sixty-nine grandchildren, and twentyone. great-grandchildren. The death occurred in Wellington last week of Mr D. M. Bror k=, who was well-known in Masterton and Mauriceville. He arrived in the Dominion about 40 yeans ago, from Australia, where he was employed :» the Victorian Government Railways. MiBrooks was in tho New Zealand Railway Service for a long number of* years, as inspector of permanent way and foreman in the construction cf the Hutt to Mast-ertc.n railways, also ! on the construction of part of the Manawatu railway up to Wadestown. He was also in charge, of the build-, ing of the Railway Wharf. After leaving the Railway Department he opened up the Mauriceville lime works and also ran the Sandon trams. He retired about I'B years ago, and has lived in Wellington ever since. He took a great interest in the Temperance cause, and was a staunch supporter of all efforts for the benefit of humanity. He leaves a widow and a family of six sons and two daughters.

A wedding of considerable interest was celebrated in Knox Church Master ton, yesterday afternoon, when Miss Annie Williams, youngest daughter of Mr Joseph Williams, of Masterton, was married to Mr Henry F. Vauglian, eldest son of Mr H. C. Yaughan, of Upper Plain. The bride, who was given away by her father, was daintily attired in creme silk eolienne, prettily trimmed with guipure, and wearing the customary veil anQ orange blossoms, and carrying a shower bouquet. The Misses Ainy Yaughan and Alice Golder were the bridesmaids, and leoked charming in white hailstone muslin, with black beaver hats trimmed with red roses, and carrying scarlet bouquets. Mr A. Yaughan was h >st man, and Mr W. Williams groomsman. After the ceremony a large number of guests were entertained at the Arcadia tea rooms, when a long toast list was honoured. Mr and Mrs Yaughan left I>y the afternoon train for the north, where the honeymoon will be spent.
