Our Own Correspondent

A very pleasant social and was held on Thursday night at Parkvale in aid of the funds of the Sunday •School, There was a la-rge attendance, and excellent music was provided by Messrs H. Crawley (cornet), and Fawcett (piano). ■ivie&srs Denbee, IX Jensen, H. Matson, and E, Nix were M. C'g. During the evening -songs were contributed by Miss S. Whyte, Mrs Hughes and Mis s Armstrong (duet), Mrs A, King, Mrs Waterson. Mrs Brickett, Mrs Hamer and Miss S. Whyto (duet), Messrs H. A. ißick and R. Tucker. Mr F. Anderson contributed an amusing stomp speech. Misses Bish and Matson played the accompaniments. An excellent supper was provided, - and when the sad and unexpected news of the death of Miss Oates reached the gathering, proceedings were quietly brought to a close, and the gathering dispersed. The work of erecting a post office at Olareville will be put in. hand shortly. Mi- A. H. Walls having the contract in hand. A man named George Kennington was arrested by Constables Murray and Gr.3gor, of Oaitertm, near Martinborough, on Thursday, on a charge of being wanted in Geraldine for maintenance of his illegitimate child. He was brought before a Justice of the Peace at Carterton, and remanded to appear at Geraldine on the 12th inst.
