VETERINARY SCIENCE.
ASSISTANCE BY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
At the meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association obi Saturday kst the report of tli.3 sub-committee appointed to make inquiry into tho propoed establislunent of a bursary in connection with veterinary scienoa was read. Mr J. T. M. Hoirnsby, Director of the Technical School, was present, and explained that the object of the Teehmical School managers was to impart instruction to farmers' sons, among whom one would probably prove himself capable, and willing to undergo a course of instruction at, an University with a view to ultimately taking a degree. A dozen pupils would be sufficient to stain, a class at a fee of £1 pea - term, of which tilers would be three per year. It was proposed that classes be held once every week, the instruction' to be given by a qualified veterinary surgeon. The assistance desired from the Association at the outset was the co-operation in securing students who would be prepared to undergo a complete course of instruction. The suggested value of the bursary was £IOO pea- year (plus expenses to University'. and tenable for three years. Th? following resolution was carried. "In the opinion of this sub-com-mittee, if a sufficient number of pupils are secured to establish a class, it would be advisable to offer prizes of say £5 and £2 for competition; awards to be made at the end of the first year, atfer which the question of a bursary be considered by this Association, in conjunction with other Associations throughout the Wairarapa. With a view to placing the class on a starting basis: it is da&ir-, able that each member of the General Committee make an effort to secure at least one pupil." In speaking to the report, Mr John Strang, Vice-President of the Association, suggested that what was required iin. this district was an Agricultural High School, whers farmers' sons could receive a general education. Mr Duncan McGiregor agreed with the sentiments expressed by Mr Strang. The report of the sub-committee was adopted.
