SIR WALTER BUCHANAN.
The enthusiasm with which the movement is being taken' up to welcome home Sir Walter Buchanan, M.P., is striking evidence of the esteem in which the member for Wairarapa is held throughout the community, and of the disposition of the people to express their appreciation of the sterling worth of a sterling settler. Apart altogether from his servioes in the arena of politics, Sir Walter Buchanan has, by his private benefaction, contributed more largely than any other man in the district to the general happiness and contentment of the community in which lie has resided for so many years. The spirit that is animating his friends in doing him honour, iu his declining years is one of sincere gratitude—a- trait in human character that is too seldom exhibited in these days of commercialism.
