AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.
The Auckland Exhibition authorities will not lie to blame if the exhibition of this-year turns out a failure. They are moving heaven and earth, as it were, to -hake the thing a isucces-s. And nobody nil! begrudge them ttie", full reward of their labour, provided they are prepared to "carry the fjaby" when the clearing-up takes plaoe. It is not quite fair of them, however, to expect the Government to provide them with half their exhibits. The Agricultural Department should not be expected to do the work that should fall upon individual districts. If a departmental exhibit is made, it should l>e of a special character, and not of such a- class as would draw invidious distinctions between wliat can be don© with State money under the best of conditioiii., and what can be produced by the average farmer. There can be no objection to the .State; Departments making exjiibits. They .should not make the exhibition.
