CARTERTON NEWS.

Our Own Correspondent

A very pleasant social under the auspices of tlie Carterton. Hockey Club was held on Tuesday night at Dalefield. Miss A. iNielsen provided the music, extras being played by Misses -Knowles and McKenzie. Messrs V. Ashton and W. Fisher were M.'sG.

Prior to leaving the Carterton Post Office on transfer to the Upper Hutt, on; Tuesday, Mr D. G. Sustins. postmaster, on behalf of the staff, presented Mr Ellis with a handsome travelling nig. Mr H. Simmonds will succeed Mr Ellis at Carterton.

On Monday evening next, at Carterton, the Rev. Dr. Gibb, of St. John's Church,, Wellington, will deliver aw address on the . Bible-in-Schools question. Mr E. Dustin, mail carrier on tlie Carrington mail delivery, is at present laid up with an injury to one of his legs, sustained in a football match on Saturday last. A very successful card tourney was held in the Foresters' Hall on Tuesday evening, under the auspices of tlie local Foresters' Lodge. Cards were played with excitement, and at the finish prizes were awarded to Mrs Gavin Amis, and Mrs W. Miller, and the consolation honours went to Miss Miller and Mr Knutson. Supper was handed round amd enjoyed.
