SELF-MADE MARTYRS.
It is, perhaps, quite a coincide:i-co that two of the leading Red Fnlerationists of the Dominion—Robert .Semple and P. C. Webb—should have gone to gaol during the last few days for failing to pay fines imposed upon them for breaches of the law. These gentlemen will now probably pose as martyrs of the brutal capitalist ie system, and will become more fiery than ever in: tnair denunciation of. a form of society that has the audacity to protect itself against lawbreakers. In view of the part that ;k being played by these 'two fire--brands in bringing about what i.s known as the "Unity of it would be interesting to know what trie* proletariat thinks of the selfmade 'martyrs? Is it part of the creed of the Social-Democrats to defy the laws or tn'fi Country ? Do MetiSl t' David McLaren, Edward Tregear, M. ,T. Reardoiv, W. T. Mills and the rest of the ''Unity Cmoimttee" endorse the action of their colleagues? If do not, will they have the candour to make a public statement to this effect?
