A LATER ACCOUNT.

POLICE AND TRACKERS BUSY

(Received May 5, 10.15 a.m.) PERTH, May 5.

In connection with the robbery of gold from the Builfinoh mine, it appears that the monthly clean-up was being made. The two watchmen— Gale and Cassey—locked in the smelt-iug-room were engagd in smelting. Cassey went out to ask the third man—Sheldon—to bring tea. When Cassey returned he opened the door and two armed and masked men appeared, and bailed up and gagged and bound the watchmen. Soon* afterwards Sheldon came with the tea, and he waa similarly treated. The robbers promptly secured about 898 ounces of gold, valued at over £3OOO. Cassey managed to free himsalf shortly after the robbers left, and gave the alarm, lue police found a number of gags, and also bags which the roHbers had worn over theii heads. Gale states that Sheldon refused to hold up his hands, and showed fight, and that the robbers thereupon tripped him up and bound him, meanwhile keeping all the watchmen covered by revolvers. The robbers smashed the electricglobes to prevent their operations being seen., They drew the trays from the retort furnaces ,and threw water on the gold to cool it. Before departing, the robbers fired a shot. Their movements showed mat they were acquainted with the workings of the mine. Early developments are expected. Police and black trackers are husy. Recent rain will make the tracking comparatively easy.
