SLAUGHTERMEN ON STRIKE.
A UNIONIST REQUEST REFUSED. (By Telegraph. —Prexs Association.) TIMARU, Last Night. Union slaughtermen at Smithifield Freezing Works are out again. It is stated that three of their number, while going to work this morning, on passing a free slaughterman, made objectionable remarks to annoy him, whereupon the three say he pulled out a revolver and threatened to shoot. He says he pulled out his pocket knife and jokingly held it out as a pistol. The three Unionists ;reported the incident to the chief slaughterman as a threat to shoot and as a body they demand the dismissal of the man as a dangerous person. The. management after hearing both sides refused to dismiss the man, and the Unionists (about forty) refused to work, and <ar© to be paid off, leaving eighteen men on the board.
