The "News" has been making inquiries into the origin of the cable alleged to have been sent to Barry, challenging him to row an unknown sculler on the Mokau River for £IOOO. The cable was sent from Awakino, a small centre in the King Country, as the result of an argument at a convivial gathering. . The syndicate, however, is a mvth. So also is the sculler and the £IOOO.
