WORKERS' DWELLINGS.

LAND ACQUIRED IN MASTERTON RURAL ALLOTMENTS UNDER OFFER. Messrs J. Lomas, of the Labour Department, Superintendent of Workers' Dwellings, and "Woburiti Temple, Architect to the Department, arrived in Masterton yesterday.. They inspected a block of land, in the vicinity of Masterton, which is at present under offer to the Government to purchase for the purpose of cutting up into suitable allotments for rural workers' homes. A block of land, containing approximately nine acres, situated in what is known as Yates' Estate, and divided into sections for the erection of workers' dwellings, under the conditions of the Workers' Dwellings Act, hag beaq; acquired. It is on the eastern sids of the railway lime, and within easy distance of the District, High School. , These - sections will be shortly open for selection to bona fide workers. Forms of application, j plans, and specifications of buildings, I also full particulars may be obtained from Mr J. Georgeson, at the office of the Government Department of Lab- j our, old Court-house Buildings, Mas-1 terton. • j The land acquired for workers' dwellings in Yates' Estate will ac- j commodate upwards of thirty build- j ings. The Act requires that a sum j of £lO shall be deposited by a worker requiring a home. The balance of the money is paid in half-yarly instalments and the payments, extend over 25-J jjears. No person with an income of over £4 per week can avail himself of the workers' homes. Applicants may secure homes oa plans to suit themselves, and of suitable - dimensions. iS6 far as the rural homes are concerned, there are -three estates under offer, and when a valuation is made, the determination of the Government in the matter will probably be announced. The rural allotments will contain five acres each.
