WELLINGTON SEASON OPENED.

(By Telegraph. — Pw 4ttociatwn.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Rugby football season was opened in fine weather on Saturday, but owing to several counter attractions, and the increased charge for admission to the Athletic Park, where the chief matches were decided, was very meagrely patronised. Play was patchy, many of the men evidently requiring more tuning up in regard to their "wind" apparatus. Results: Oriental 14 beat Poneke 3; Athletic 13 beat Wellington 3;- Melrose 20 beat St. James nil; Petoue 12 drew with Victoria College "12.
