APPOINTMENT (IF GENERAL MANAGLR. {By Telegraph—Press Association.) ' WELLINGTON,' Last Night. - Cabinet this afternoon confirmed the appointment of Mr Ernest Havilland Hiley, Divisional Goods Manager at Newcastle for the North-Eastern Railway Company, England, as General Manager of the New Zealand Railways. Ther e were eighty-two applicants for the position, including about a dozen from New Zealand, a few from Canada and Australia, and the rest from Britain. The Prime Minister stated this evening that th? appointee'®, record was a particularly good one. He is 43 years of age, and has had extensive experience of the working of big railway systems at Hiaie. y
