AN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE.

The London correspondent of the Sydney Sun makes the important statement that arrangements have been practically completed for the formation of an expeditionary force the Commonwealth for service abroad whan the Mother Country requires it. This, if it be true, is a very significant step for a Labour Government to take and explains the attitude of the Hon. James Allen in the matter. Service with such an expeditionary force would, of course, be purely voluntary. In the opinion of the Ohristclun ch Press, the machinery for sending the force awa> quickly and properly equipped must be kept in working order, ready to run at a moment's notice. Thanks to the defence systems adopted in Australia and New Zealand, there will bo no laok of trained men, and we believe that if acall comes there will be no lack of volunteers from among these men. What is wanted is an organisation by which these men would be despatched, as a properly equipped unit, with the least- loss of time and with the minimum of effort, and be ready to take their place when they reached the scene' of action. We look forward to the day when every part of the Empire will be prepared to do this, and the organisation will be so good that a. touch at one point will set the whole of the machinery in motion.
