BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

PROPOSED HV-LA'VS. The annual meeting <i• il.e Master - ton Beautifying Society will be held in the Borough Council Chaimbens on Thursday evening,'at 7 o'clock, when the following by-laws will be submitted : 1- Objects. —-The objects of the Society shall be, with the consent and approval of the Borough Council, to form a Central Executive Body to receive gifts of plants, donations, etc., to lay out, and plant with trees, shrubs and flowers, stich uncultivated spaces as are suited to that purpose; and to undertake live direction of carrying out of any other work which may, in their opinion, conduce to adorn the. town or add to its attrac- | tiveness in any way. I 11. Membership.—All persons interested in the objects of the Society shall be admitted as memliere on payment of an animal, subscription of ss, and a life membership subscription of not less than £3 3s. Children may be admitted as Associates at a reduced subscription of one shilling. 111. Executive and Modes of Action. —(a) The. whole Executive functions of the Society shall be discharged by a committee, which shall consist, of a President (who shall be the Mayor of the City for the time being). Vice-President, and 10 members, five at least of whom may be ladies. Any five shall form a quorum. Tho Vice-President, together with the memlvens of the Committee, shall be appointed at • the' annual meetings of the Association. (b) The Vice-President and five ordinary members of the committee shall retire each year, the ordinary members to retire during the first two years being determined by ballot among the members of the committee; and in subsequent years, the ordinary, members who have been longest in office without re-election shall 'retire. All retiring members of committee shall be eligible for re-election. The committee shall have power to fill all extraordinary vacancies on the Council which. may arise by the death or resignation of any member or other-, wise; and any person so appointed shall hold office in whose place he shall be appointed. Any member of the committee; other than the President and Vice-President, who shall be. absent from three successive duly convened meetings of the Committee, without permission, shall be deemed to have ceased to be a member of the Committee, on the passing of a resolution by the Committee to that effect, provided that notice shall be given bv circular or otherwise to every member of the Committee of the intention to propose such a resolution. .(c) The Committee shall have power to appoint a treasurer, secretary, canvasser, or other officers as they think fit, with or without remuneration ; and such officers may be members of the committee, provided, nevertheless, that any member of the committee holding any office shall not be entitled to receive any remuneration for his services. * (d) T,he Committee shall meet periodically at such times as they may from time to time decide, for the consideration and promotion of the objects of the Association, and shall entertain such suggestions as may be made by the individual members or others, (e) Tlie Committee may appoint sub-commits tees of itsv members or of members of the Society, to devote their attention to any special objects, such sub-com-mittees to report from time to time to, and be under the control of, the Committee, (f) The funds of the Society -shall be devoted to the furtherance of the general objects of the Society in such manner as the. Committee shall, think fit. (g) The Committee may receive and apply •special ■subscriptions, donations and legacies, either for the general objects of the Society, or for the prosecution or assistance of special schemes, (h) The Committee may call special meetings of the-Society for the consideration of any matter requiring attention, or the promotion of any of its objects; and they shall call such special meetings on receipt of a requisition in that behalf, signed by not fewer than three members of the Committee, or five members of the Society, (i) The Committee may at any time convene meeting,a of the consideration of any question of paramount importance to the public at large, affecting or bearing upon the objects of the Society, (i) The annual meeting of the Society shall be held in the month of February in each year. For the purpose of receiving the report of the Committee for the* pre€sd.ing year, filling vacancies in the committee, and considering other business.
