YESTERDAY'S i'ROCEEDINGS. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. H.M.S. New Zealand this evening presented a fin© spectacle, the liull, masts, etc., being effectively outlined with electric lights, which reflected on the still surface of the water, made up a pretty picture that attracted much attention from the shore. During tho afternoon the warship was visited by large numbers of people. To-night the officers are being entertained at a citizens ball in the Town Hall, which is lavishly decorated for tlie occasion, and the function is one of the most' brilliant held in Wellington. To-mor-row the crew will he the guests of the City Council' at lunch, and in the afternoon a fete will be held at Newtown Park. (Referring to a -paragraph in the telegraphed report of the proceedings at the arrival of H.M.S. New Zealand, touching the abse>nce oif a salute from tli3 forts, the Prime Minister pointed out .to-day the-'Ring's regulations and the New Zealand general regulations, which state distinctly that His Majee : ty's ships and His Majesty's forts shall not exchange salutes in any part of His* Majesty's dominions. This explanation was made as the paragraph referred to appeared-to reflect on the Defence authorities and the Government.
