ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION. OF THE KING OF SPAIN. THE ASSAILANT ARRESTED. (Received April 14, 12.20 p.m.) MADRID ,April 13. King Alfonso ,while returning from a review and when passing the Ban.V of Spain, was fired at three times. One of the shots shruck King Alfonso's horse in the chest. * The assailant, a man named Rafall Alegra, aged 25 years, was arrested; He is a native of Catalonia.
[King Alfonso XIU. is the son of the late King Alfonso XII. and Queen Maria Christina, a daughter of the late Karl Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria. He was born after his father's death, on May 17th, 1886, and his childhood was <n'mt at Madrid, and in the Palate cf Miramar, in San Sebastian. On May 17th, 1902, Alfonso XIII .ascended the throne, a.nd assumed full powers. On May 31st, 1906, he married H.R.H. Princess Victoria. Eugenie of Battenberg. As the King and Queen were returning to the Palace they narrowly escaped death from a bomb, thrown by an Anarchist. King Alfonso is a K.G., G.C.V.0., a General in the British Army, and received the Roval Victorian Chai in June, 1905. .He has a Civil list of about £280,000.]
