A TRAGIC AFFAIR.
MAN BURNT TO DEATH AT FEATHERSTON. A tragic affair occurred at Featherston yesterday afternoon, by which an old-age pensioner na-mer Peter Jacobsen came by his .death. Jacobsen and another man named Crosscy were together in an old dwelling near the Royal Hotel, when, by some means, the building took fire. Constable Baker saw the flames, and rushed to the cottage in time, to pull Crossey out in a half-stupefied condition. The old man Jacobsen perished in the flames. His charred renfains were subsequently found among tlie debris. Crossey ■was burnt about the face and hands,' but not seriously. An inquest will be held this mornin*; by Mr J. T. M. Homsby, District Coroner. It is not known whether the victim has relativesin the Dominion.
