The remains of the late Mr. Hans Beck were conveyed to their last resting place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday morning. The late Mr. Beck came to this Dominion in the Danish ship "Triton" in 1863, on which vessel he was ship's carpenter. He was employed by the Government in the erection of the first quay in Wellington, and on road contracts. Mir. Beck was never married, and he had no relations in the Dominion. The ship "Triton" and the German ship "Cfliristian" were in Wellington together in 1863, and they brought the firtst deer from England to New Zealand. They came from the farm of the late Plrince Consort.

At the ripe age of 77 years, Mr. Wm. Stuckey, an old and respected resident in Gisborne, passed away on Monday last. The dieceased gentleman had been ailing for-several yeans as the result of injuries received by a fall off Ka.iti bridge on to the embankment. The late Mr. Stuckey was born'at Cane, Dorset, and at 18 years of age he enlisted in the 60th Regiment. A year later, 1855, he came to 'Now Zealand. He passed through the Waikato and Taranaki wars, and after serving for 11 years* he received his discharee. Mr. Stuckey settled in the Waikato and then went to the Thames goldfields, and to Gi<slw>me in 1872. He was the first overseer for the Borough Council, and remained in the Council's employ for many years.
