SOUTH COAST MINERS IDLE. POLICE ESPIONAGE RESENTED. (Received March 19, 8.60 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 19. The whole of the South Coast mines are now idle. It ds stated that a considerable section of the men did not favour the strike, but irritation over police espionage at Saturday's meetings supplied the spark which ignited them. The minora declare they never heard of the police insisting on being present at the masters' meetings, and fail to see why they should attend the men's gatherings. It is hoped that to-day's aggregate meeting will open the way to a settlement, otherwise it is likely there will be more serious developments. A deputation from the Southern Miners' Federation saw Mr Carmichael (Minister for Labour), and submitted proposals that all the strikers should return to work on tho condition that a special tribunal is appointed to decide the matters in dispute, both s/kles binding themselves to accept its decision. The mutters to be discussed are to be the dismissal of "Russell and two other miners. Mr Carmichael offered the services of the Industrial Registrar as an intermediary. ,Tho Registrar confers with tho masters to-day. The Premier (Mr MeGowen) and Mr Carmichael both declined an invitation to attend the aggregate meeting. NOT TO RESUME. UNTIL MEN ARE REINSTATED. (Received Last Nieht, 9.55 o'clock.) SYDNEY, March 19. At the aggregate meeting the miners resolve<l not to resume until Russell and two others had been reinstated. A tribunal is to bo appointed 7 ntor to investigate the matter.
