PICNIC DRAG SMASHED BY TRAIN. ONE MAN KILLED INSTANTLY. (Received March 17. P. 20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 17. A drag containing twenty-two picnickers had a. miraculous escape .it a levoi crossing on the Brighton railway on Saturday night. Tho drag was on the metals whon tho train wnra approaching. The gates being half open prevented the driver of the drag manoeuvring the horses straight across, and ho hurriedly decided to attempt to escnne by driving the team along the lino towards Briffhton. The .Horses >";?sjponded well and moved in the direction of safety before the pas'sengen? realised tho danger.
