ST. PATRICK'S NIGHT.
ANNUAL ENTERTAINMENT. The annual social and dance in con- j flection with St. Patrick's Church was | held in the Town and Brill Halls la.st i evening, when, there was a very large assemhlaga of the people from all parts of the district'. The evening was devoted to dancing, music, elocution and card's. The floor was specially prepared, which made dancing very enjoyable; Excellent music was .supplied hy Mr F, .McKenzie's orchestra. and the gay gathering, hroke up in the early hours of the morning. r, 'he success of the dancing programme was due to the energies of the M's.O. (Messrs J. A. MeEwen. J. C. McKillon, J. J. Kelliher and W. Redmond), J who mcvq untiring in their efforts to make the function an enjoyable ni? for all. Waltz extras were contributed liv Mrs /Enstnvnnd and the Misses R. Frost. Maud Williams and O'Heil--Iy. The musical programme was well received, the most notable contributor being Mr A. Kenny, of Bunedin, "ho rendered musical monologues and .humorous, recitals, his rendering of "A Bunch of Roses" and "The Girl on the 'Stairs" "being loudly applamL ed. A. juvenile elocutionist, in the" person of Master Fergus Reeves, splendidlv recited "the Kid." "Vatai Lslm-Pada" and "The Frenchman pud the Flee Powder." A most pomil.vr part of the proceedings was the Highland dancing, .which was splendidly received. The contributors wev»: Scotch Reel, the four Paul in gs ; Highland Fling, Miss Essie Sutherland; Irish Jig, Bon Sutherland; Sheantniibhas. Miss Lily Pauling. The Caledonian Society's Pipe Band marched to the hall and rendered a selected programme of music en route. The success of the whole entertain- | ment was largely due to the oanable I manner in which Mr J. A. MeEwen ! filled the position iof secretary, as well as, the valuable assistance rendered by " strong committee of ladies and gentlemen. St. Patrick's concert and dance in :M'asterton lias al- ! ways been regarded as one of tho most successful of the season, and it may safely he said that last evening's | function wns one of the most enjoyable vet held.
