CELEBRATIONS IN SYDNEY. (Received Last Night, 7.10 o'clock.) SYDNEY, .March 17. The speeches at the St. Patrick's Day celebrations were largely devoted to hopeful auguries for Home Hide. Archbishop Kelly stated that if they would give Ireland us co-picu.s a draught of 'liberty a« given, to England and Scotland, then England would find the Empire strong and united. "If not," ho .said, "then we will treat them as we treated the bursaries the other day. if they don't give Ireland Homo Rule, wr are prepared for oven 'worse. So let them look out! Wo will upset their Parliament over and over again. The fight has gone on for centuries. If it has to go on for centuries more, so much the worse for what they call tho British Empire." MR W. J. The Irish Athletic Society held its annual, sports gathering to-day in fine, but windy weather. Trie day was not observed' as a close holiday in town, and therefore the attendance was not large. The principal event,. the Sheffield Handicap, was won by E. J. Bartlett, off 9£ yards, who takes £4O { and Sir Joseph Ward's <reld medal. J. J. Livesey. off 9J- yards, was second. P. G.'Richards' (lOvds) third, and W. Aldred <2ycls) fourth. All the placed men are local athletes.
