THE HALF-HOLIDAY
(To the Editor.)
iSir.—There appears to be an organised effort in Masterton to prevent the townspeople from exercising their fre« and untrammelled vote on the holiday question. The shop assistants are almost afraid to open their meuths. and the workers dare jiot express themselves lest thev be victimised. But the ballot will tell. This is ■supposed to be a. free country. We are living in a democracy where majorities are. supposed to rule. Jf the majoi'itv of tlie peonle in "Waste"tin say that they prefer to do their shopping en Fridav, and irivo the shop a*--•«fistaitts the Saturday afternoon off. who shall sav that an injustice is being done? —I am, etc., ANOTHER WORKER. Masterton, March 17, 1913. [Unhappily, the question concerns the country people as much as the town, and these have not a. vet?. But we a,re prepared to trust the people of the town to do the right thing.— Ed. Age.]
