April 9 and 10—Manawatu R.C. April 16 and 17 —Hawke's Bay J.O. Satisfactory acceptances have been for the opening day of the Tauherenikau meeting. As .Saturday is being observed as a holiday by many lmsinc\ss places, a large crowd should be present at the popular fiixiuro. The crack jockey, B. Doelev, had another good outing at Nelson, riding seven winners during the meeting. This will put Deeley wo 11 up on. the winning list, and as he now seems to have struck form, it is not improbable that he will again head the list of winning riders.
The "Highden" stable had bad luck to lose the two .year old race at Napier on Tlnmsday. G. Price was absent, which wiil account for the mistake being made. BabrikofFs performance in the Flying Handicap at Napier must go down as one of the best performances put up by Mr Lowry's champion. In conceding so much weight and such a start to a speedy mare like Blue Lak- 1 , a marvellous performance was registered. Cheddar, Ivy winning the Napier Cup, incurs a penalty for the Great Autumn Handicap. He tvill, no doubt, be one of the favourites for the event named, as when at his best form Cheddar is decidedly useful over a lengthv course. The "Karamu" stable is right out of luck. Peary and !?ay Fly were the medium of heavy investments at Napier on Thursday, but eacli was beaten by narrow margins. It is some time since the cerise jacket was carried to viciorr.
Tlie annual meeting of the Whakataki Hack Racing Club takes place to-day at Castlepoint. The meeting is a non-fete one, bu' i>s none the less <n,joyed bv the largo number of people from all parts of the district, who look upon the gathering as the event of the year. This year the meeting promises to ho ?. great success, the inimbrv of horses l>ein£ engaged being much larger than usual. A number of M.i.-;torton sports motored out tliii morning to attend the fixture. Sir Tvnox will probr.bly be ridden in E.ister Handicap at Tauherem'cau by 15. De< ioy. Sinani.s ran two good races at Nelson. The going was not to her liking on the first day, but on the concluding day the track was much l>etter and the St. Ambrose mare won from Ceylon, whose form was about- the best she has yet shown. Ceylon has an engagement in the Easter Handicap at Tauherenikan, in which,.she will have to carry a penalty. Large nominations have .been received for the "Wellington Racing Club's aotumn meeting, all the crack horses of the Dominion being engaged.
Gapon, who won the chief event at Tnverearirill on Thursday, is engaged in the Great Autumn, and will come into favour for that event in consequence of liis good showing at the Southland fixture. Fit/o,shome, who won a. race on, the first day of tKe Southland fixture, was hred by the late Mr R. Ross, of Tauherenikau. and was by Achilles from a St. Leger mare. Mr T. Ross, of Masterton, has for sale a half brother, by the imported horse { Chatsworth. The horse in question | is a fine big chestnut gelding, with I plenty of bene, and showing a lot of I quality. He should prove useful when he starts hip. racing career. R. Knox Jia<s just broken in a fine looking two * year old filly, by Benzonian from Platypus. The youngster gives L'reat promise, and .should be heard of fater.
