TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

THE OPENING' CEREMONY. There was a large gathering of intending students and a number of parents at the Masterton Technical School last night. Mr W. H. Jackson, chairman of the Board of Managers, presided, and there were present- also—Messrs J. M. Cora dine, E. Feist, H. J. O'Leary, and C. E. Daniel!. managers. The chairman expressed his pleasure at seeing so goodly a gathering, and referred at some length to the value of the work to bo undertaken by all those who proposed to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the curriculum of the Technical School. He explained the benefits to be derived by pupils, and urged upon all students the necessity as well as the benefit of effort. He wished the teachers and pupils a pleasant and profitable year. The Managers had appointed a director for the school, Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, who would be tho headmaster and controller of th-; v whole school. Mr 0. E. Daniell addressed a few earnest words to the and girls present, and urged upon them to be worthy of their country. On their boys and \ '.l'ls of to-day, the hopes of New Zealand were fixed. Opportunities were presented to all of them who chose to embrace these, and thus fit themselves to become good and true citizens, capable of carrying on the general work of advancement.

Mr Coradine added his felicitations on the success of the opening night of the school for the year, and wished tiie pupils and teachers a profitable and prosperous time. He hoped to see new classes formed and a, period of increased usefulness for their beneficent institution.

Mr H. J. O'Leary expressed his good wishes and'his gratification with the past results obtained. Mr Hornsby was called upon, and addressed some words of advice md some warm encouragement to tho pupils. The work of enrolment then went on successfully, and it was announced that the lists had filled up even more raoidlv than in 'future years.
