Oar Own Correspondent. A committee cf Carterton ladies are this week making a house to house canvass for the aid of Dr Barnardo's homes. Everyone knows the great work inaugur /ted and carried on l)y this philanthropist, and most will feel inclined to contribute something towards it. Tho homes are supported entirely by voluntary contributions, and. the smallest sum is gratefully received. While two men were employed at Longbush on Saturday blasting rock, they unearthed the skull and lower jaw of a-human being. From appearance it is that of a Maori, and has been buried under the rock for a considerable number of years. The bono is in a good state of preservation. The Belvedere School Connnittteo is moving in lie matter of arranging an excursion of Carterton and district, school children to the Dominion's warship New Zealahd, sTuorthj 'expected to arrive in Wellington. A cricket match between Greytown and Carterton was played on Carrington Park on Saturday last, Carterton winning by 227 runs to 78. A wedding of local interest takes place at the Methodist Church here on Thursday next.
