SERIOUS ASSAULT.

A NEGRO ARRESTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. Fitzgerald Clark, a negro, was arrested this afternoon on' a charge of causing actual bodily harm to Edward Doherty. It appears that Doherty was walking alone in Upper Willis street with his brother Patrick. They passed 'Clark, and Edward Doherty .said "good afternoon" to him. Clark called Doherty hack. They had a few words. Then Clarl? struck Doherty, and knocked him. down. In the fall Doherty fractured the base of his skull. He was attended to by a doctor, and removed to the hospital, where he now lies unconscious. Clark alleges' that Doherty used offensive language towards him.
