THE ENGINEERS.
and the union company. DISPUTE AMICABLY SETTLED. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Lat Night, After the conference tins morning tile following statement was prepared and tumcleci to the .Press: "It is understood that the engineers had some time ago made demands for increased pay and other privileges, the .>n centioiK. being to bring their pay and privileges into line with those enjoyed by the engineers in Australia, under a recent award of the Arbitration Court. The company had already agreed to concede the Australian wages, but demurred at the payment of overtime, proposing' iiv lieu thereof a fixed supplementary monthly payment. Mr Massey upheld the engineers' claims in regard to overtime, and these were therefore allowed. The engineers will now work under the Australian reward as regards wages, overtime, and other privileges, the difference between the conditions in New Zealand and Australia being now of a very minor character. The conference between the Union Company and the engineers has been of a very friendly nature, and there is every reason to believe that the amicable relationship which has always existed between the company and its engineers will be undisturbed.
